At BDO in Malaysia, we believe in bringing about responsible, positive, long-term change to our communities. Our corporate responsibility programme unites our employees with the aim of becoming a good corporate citizen. By giving back to the community and acting as a responsible organisation, we can initiate change for the better. We take an integrated approach to addressing social issues and aligning them with our corporate strategy. By placing corporate responsibility high on the agenda of our business we believe we can sustain enduring relationships with our stakeholders, and build a stronger business. This is why our range of corporate responsibility activities, and the challenge we set ourselves in making a difference, is something we are most proud of. BDO Gives Back 2012
BDO Gives Back, a day dedicated to performing CSR activities, took place on 26 November this year. Close to 200 partners and staff from Kuala Lumpur and Seremban offices visited the Forest Reserve Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) located in Kepong to plant 70 trees on this day. Similar to last year, BDOians organised internal fundraising activities such as dance classes, movie screening and food sales in the run-up to BDO Gives Back. The generosity of staff and partners saw more than RM8,200 raised, to add to the firm’s contribution towards activities in KL, Penang and Johor Bahru. Mok Chew Yin, Executive Director of Advisory, started the ball rolling by planting the first kapur sapling

Elsewhere in JB, BDO staff and partner raised funds to support SRK St. Joseph (Johor Bahru) Run 2012. Additionally, they treated 15 children from Pusat Perlindungan Kanak-kanak Sinar Juita, a shelter for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, to a day of fun cultural activities at Causeway Holidays in Kampung Mohd Amin. During the outing, both BDOians and children witnessed demonstrations on batik painting, pewter moulding and Malaysian traditional games and cultural dance. They were guided on an educational tour around the Spice Garden and mini plantation, which fluorished with tropical plants and trees such as pepper, lemongrass, coffee and cocoa. The children were most excited about the hands-on batik painting and cocoa pulping and drink tasting. They were even given early training on how to plant their own groundnuts! BDOians and the children bonded over traditional games such “gasing” (top-spinning) and "Batu Seremban" (5 stones), before a sing-along and cultural dance performance by professional stage dancers. BDOians in Penang organised a visit to Silver Jubilee Home for the aged as part of our BDO Gives Back initiative on 14 December 2012. The Home houses 200 residents and has five medical wards for the sick and aged. They are cared for by a matron, two staff nurses and more than 20 ward attendants.
