Forensics Technology

The demands for forensic technology have been developed alongside law-enforcement agencies and investigative teams over the years to cope with the increasing requirement for the preservation and analysis of electronic data and evidence. Investigations, dispute resolution and regulatory assignments increasingly revolve around information collected, stored and processed on computers. Sensitive data such as e-mail, database systems, documents, temporary files, passwords, time and date stamps and other potentially valuable information are written to remote locations on computer hard disk drives as part of the normal operating process.

It is vital for an organisation to have effective access to this type of information, and most perpetrators are unaware that such information even exist, and therefore are extremely careless in covering their tracks. Electronic traces can be converted into clear, relevant facts that can give an organisation a reliable picture of what actually took place.

Digital Evidence Recovery

Many sources of evidence today exist only in digital form. Locating and extracting such evidence requires customised equipment, specialised software and technical professionals specifically trained and experienced in the art of digital evidence recovery.

Our Forensic Technology professionals can recover electronic evidence in a legally prescribed manner suitable for use in legal proceedings. We also provide expert testimony to explain the manner in which evidence was located, extracted and examined; including exact binary image of copies of the digital evidence. Our experts have successfully captured digital evidence from many devices such as PC hard discs, data servers, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) and mobile phones.

Cyber Forensics

Most businesses today engage in e-commerce and a variety of other financial and sensitive transactions across networks. The movement of traditional accounting, mail and other core organisational functions, perhaps via outsourcing, into cyberspace increases the opportunities for inside offenders or external intruders to engage in fraud and other forms of misbehaviour across networks.
These networks, whether intranet, extranet or internet become targets for attack for two reasons:

  • To destroy, deny, or degrade the ability of the victim to conduct business or e-commerce;
  • To take something of value from the victim.

Organisations victimised by network attacks often suffer from the negative publicity that follows, leading to erosion in customer confidence and a subsequent loss of business and assets.

Our Cybercrime professionals will work to determine the extent of the computer network attack, affix culpability, assess financial losses, recommended corrective action, implement corporate compliance and defensive programs and reduce the potential of cyber-related civil litigation.

Forensic Data Analysis

The volume and complexity of digital data generated today can place an overwhelming burden on any organisation that is faced with a need for data investigation. Our data analysts provide clients with in-depth assessments and interpretations of vast multiple data sets.

The benefits of our Proactive Forensic Data Analysis Service include:

  • Identification of hidden relationships between people, organisations and events.
  • A means to analyse suspicious transactions.
  • An ability to assess the effectiveness of an organisation’s internal controls intended to prevent or detect fraudulent activities.
  • The potential to continually monitor fraud threats and vulnerabilities.
  • The ability to consider and analyse thousands of transactions in less time, more efficiently and cost-effectively than more traditional forensic sampling techniques
  • The ability to be customised to addresses specific organisational and industry issues

Coupled with our tried and tested methodology, our analysts use the latest techniques including data extraction, data storage, data mining and visualisation, password cracking and de-encryption techniques to provide a cost efficient resolution to data investigation issues.
